On September 20 at 5:00pm, join us at Thoreson American Legion Park (11771 North Shore Dr) between Alpha and Grantsburg for outdoor fun. We will serve a snack. Please RSVP. Take County Road Y off of Hwy 70 just outside of Alpha. Follow Y to North Shore Drive.

Fall Fun Outing  

Join us at Clam Dam Park for a fall themed activity. We will have s'mores by the fire. From Siren take Highway 35 north, take a right on Kruger Road, follow for about 2.2 miles and take a left on Pike Bend Road, take a left on Clam Dam Rd and follow to the park.   Please RSVP. 

Fun and Fit Families - Crex Meadows Fall Festival

Our summer and fall program, Fun and Fit Families, will come to a close on October 14 at the Crex Meadows Visitor Center.  Classroom activities will start at 10am. If you have attended any summer or fall programs with the FRC, you will be given tickets towards prizes. You can also earn tickets by participating in the events at the finale. Prizes include - fishing, camping, hiking gear, swimming items, lawn games, sporting equipment, first aid kits, picnic blankets, and a kayak. You must be preset to win. 

Activities include scavenger hunts, games, river mucking, Wildlife Ecology Presentation, live owls, healthy food tasting and more. 

If you participated in the pedometer contest, please turn in your child's name, age, and number of steps by September 30. We will announce the winners on Oct 14 (you do not need to be present to win). You must have gotten a pedometer in June or July to be eligible.


Lil Chefs

Come to the FRC and cook with your kids. Please RSVP by the day before. Space will be limited for Lil' Chefs.

Starting June 1, we will be at Crooked Lake Park for Playgroup. In case of inclement weather we will be back at the FRC. We will have playgroups every Monday and Thursday at 10:00 am at the Family Resource Center in Siren.  Caregivers and their children can come  for play, activities, projects and a snack .  No RSVP necessary.

Pedometer Contest Ends Sept 30

Turn in your steps to the FRC by Sept 30. The top boy and girl steppers will receive a special prize at the Fall Finale of Fun and Fit Families. 

Annual Fall Family Hike and Campfire Dinner

Come out for a fun night at Governor Knowles State Forest. On September 29 at 5:00 - Park Ranger Joan - will lead an easy hike. This is appropriate for most ages. After the hike we will cook dinner over the fire. Meet at campsites 10 and 11 at the St. Croix Campground off of Hwy 70, west of Grantsburg. Please call for more details.  Must RSVP by Thursday evening (Sept 28).

Fun and Fit Families - 2017

Join the FRC as we get out and about it our county this summer and fall. Every time you attend an activity (including playgroup) you will earn tickets that can be redeemed at the fall finale on October 14 at Crex Meadows Visitor Center. There will be cool outdoor themed prizes. Last year we had camping equipment, hiking gear, flashlights, multitools, yard games, life jackets, fishing gear, snowshoes, and more. The grand prize was a 10 foot kayak with paddle. We have something for every age this summer and fall so check out the activity descriptions in the next column. Healthy Families of Burnett County - Home Visitation

The FRC has home visiting program for families who are pregnant or have newborn babies. This free, weekly home visiting program will support you through your pregnancy and the early years of your baby's life. We will give you ways to make your home safer, information on how to care for your baby, facts regarding development, activities you can do with your baby, and much more. To learn more about this exciting program call the FRC. 

Home Visits/Parenting Classes

Someone from the FRC will visit you in your home, at the FRC, or a location of your choice  for assistance with parenting, budgeting, discipline, or just someone to talk to. If you are interested or in need of support, please call us. 


This program is a supervised visitation program for parents with custody or safety concerns. 


We offer two playgroups a week - Mondays and Thursdays - from 10:00-11:30am at the FRC in Siren. Parents, guardians, daycare providers, or grandparents bring your children to play, do crafts, and have a snack. You can play with your children and chat and network with other adults. A great chance for your little one to play and socialize. Open to all ages.

****Note: During the warmer months we will meet at Crooked Lake Park in Siren.

Lil' Chefs

Lil's Chefs will promote healthy eating and nutrition. Come to the FRC and cook with your children. Watch your children get excited about cooking as they wear their chef's hats and aprons. We hope to get them to try new foods. There will always be something to eat and sometimes food to take home. Occasionally families will be requested to bring cooking items from home (ie: pans, bowls, storage containers). The smaller children are welcome - they can play while we cook and there is always extra food. Please RSVP for this event so we can plan the food accordingly. 

Arts and Crafts Night

We will have a monthly themed Arts and Crafts Night. All ages are welcome and snacks will be served.  Check the "Upcoming Events" section for details on the monthly theme. 

Family Fun Activities and Field Trips. 

​Join us for family fun activities during the month. Everyone is welcome to join us in fun activities that include the whole family. Past activities include holiday parties, pumpkin carving, sun and sand party, gardening night, pirates and princesses, and much more. In the warmer months we try to get outside and meet at different areas in our county. Past trips have included Crex Meadows, Tammi's Wildlife Rescue, Pizza by the Pond, Fort Folle Avoine, apple orchards, fall outings, sledding, dairy farm tours, and more. 


Come to the FRC for free, gently used baby clothes (newborn - 4T). Take what you need and give back when you can. Other miscellaneous items are available from time to time such as blankets, toys, books, winter gear, etc. Donations are also accepted but we request that they are not stained, ripped, or broken. We cannot accept cribs or car seats

Bosom Buddies    

​Bosom Buddies is a Breast Feeding Support Group led by a certified lactation counselor. We will meet every Wednesday at the FRC at 9:00am. Some topics to be covered will be going back to work - when and how to pump, sore nipples, mastitis, plugged ducts. 

Car Seat Safety

The FRC has a Certified Child Passenger Safety Technician on staff! Please call to make an appointment to have your car seats inspected, fitted to your child, information on recalls,  and help with installation. Please expect appointments to take at least 30 minutes and have children present if possible.
